The short version

  • In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number, or go to the nearest emergency department.
  • Materia+ is a technology platform. It doesn't give medical care, diagnosis or treatment.
  • Providers on Materia+ are independent. Each one is responsible for their own advice and care.
  • Their services don't replace your doctor. Keep seeing your doctor, and don't stop or change prescribed medication without talking to them.
  • Results vary from person to person. Nobody on Materia+ can promise a cure.
  • Articles on Materia+ are general information, not advice for you.
  • Some providers aren't registered with any college or association. Their profile says "Unregistered". Choosing a provider is your decision and your responsibility.

1.In an emergency

Don't use Materia+ in an emergency. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Materia+ and the providers on it don't offer emergency care, urgent triage or crisis services. If you have a medical emergency, a serious injury or sudden severe symptoms, or you're thinking about harming yourself or someone else, call 911 or your local emergency number, or go to the nearest emergency department.

Don't wait for a booking, a reply to a message or a video visit. Providers may not see messages right away, and Materia+ doesn't monitor messages, check-ins or care plans.

Crisis lines:

  • Canada: call or text 988 (Suicide Crisis Helpline)
  • United States: call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline)
  • United Kingdom: call 999 in an emergency, NHS 111 for urgent help, or Samaritans at 116 123
  • Ireland: call 112 or 999 in an emergency, or Samaritans at 116 123

2.If something urgent happens during a video visit

Your provider may stop the visit and tell you to get emergency help.

If you become unwell during a video visit, end the call and call emergency services. Materia+ can't locate you or send help to you. Your provider may ask where you are at the start of a visit so they can direct emergency services if needed, and may end the visit and tell you to get urgent care.

3.Materia+ isn't a medical service

We provide the technology. Providers provide the care.

Materia+ is a technology platform: a directory, booking and video tools, and practice software. Materia+ doesn't practise medicine or any other health profession, and doesn't give medical care, diagnosis or treatment.

Providers on Materia+ practise homeopathy, holistic nutrition, massage therapy, osteopathy, psychotherapy, functional yoga, herbalism and Ayurveda. They are independent professionals running their own practices, not Materia+ employees or agents. Materia+ doesn't direct, supervise or check the advice or care they give.

4.Keep seeing your doctor

These services work alongside your regular health care. They don't replace it.

The services providers offer are wellness and therapeutic services. Unless a provider is licensed to do so where you are, they don't diagnose or treat medical conditions, and they can't prescribe or change prescription medication. Keep seeing your doctor or other primary care provider. Tell them about any natural health products or therapies you're using. Don't stop, start or change prescribed medication without talking to them.

5.No guaranteed results

Everyone responds differently. Nobody can promise a cure.

Results vary from person to person. Materia+ doesn't promise any result from any service booked through the Platform. Be cautious of any claim that a remedy, supplement or therapy will cure a disease, and report it to us.

6.Products and remedies

Materia+ doesn't make or sell remedies or supplements.

Materia+ doesn't make, test, sell or distribute herbs, supplements, homeopathic remedies or other natural health products, and doesn't profit from them. Any product, diet or lifestyle recommendation in a provider's care plan or profile is the provider's own professional recommendation. To the extent the law allows, Materia+ isn't responsible for products from others, or for allergic reactions or interactions with medication. A provider who sells or ships products to you is responsible for those products.

7.Articles and other content

Articles are general information, not advice for your situation.

Articles, guides and other content on Materia+, including everything in the Read section, are for general information about health and wellness. They aren't medical advice and aren't written for your particular situation. Don't use them to diagnose or treat yourself, and don't ignore professional advice because of something you read. Authors' views are their own.

8.Choosing a provider

Some providers are "Unregistered". Choosing a provider is your decision and your responsibility.

What a provider's profile shows. Each provider's profile has a credential field:

  • A named college or association: the provider has given us proof of active registration or membership with a regulatory college or a professional association, public or private.
  • "Unregistered": the provider doesn't hold, or hasn't given us proof of, registration or membership with any college, association or society, public or private.

Some disciplines, such as herbalism and holistic nutrition, aren't regulated by government in many places. An "Unregistered" provider may still be trained, and may practise on Materia+ with no end date.

What our review means. "Verified" on Materia+ means only that we did a basic administrative review of the documents the provider gave us when they registered. They don't mean government licensing, medical certification or an endorsement by Materia+. We don't audit training programs, private diplomas or association memberships, and we can't guarantee that a provider's credentials are accurate or still current. The credential field is the only indicator of a provider's registration status.

Your choice, your responsibility. It's up to you to decide whether a provider's training, credentials, registration status and scope of practice are right for you. If you choose to see a provider, including one who is "Unregistered", you do so at your own risk. To the extent the law allows, Materia+ isn't responsible for that choice or for the provider's services. Credentials, Titles & Badges explains the profile labels in more detail.

9.Questions or concerns

If you're worried about a provider's advice or conduct, contact the provider, their regulatory college or association where they have one, and us at support@materiaplus.com.
